Mary attained her Bachelor’s Degree at Pittsburg State University in Social Work and attended the Advanced Standing Social Work Master’s Program at University of Kansas. She graduated with honors and was privileged to be on the Integrated Health Scholars team of her graduating class. Her focus of practice specializes in assisting and supporting families with special needs (cognitive and physical disabilities). Educating families on results of psychological testing as well as assisting with educational challenges such as IEP’s or 504 plans within the school. Mary also assists with parent coaching for all ages and recognize the challenges that present with every stage of the parenting journey, especially the transitioning teen years. She can assist parents and teens transition into healthy adult relationships. Mary is fully trained in trauma focus therapeutic care. Within her practice at Counseling Associates of the Four States, she will be offering a micro support group system that focuses on equipping parents with strategies and education to help challenging obstacles, as well as, building a community of families that are traversing the obstacles that come with having a special needs child/family member. Mary looks forward to expanding her practice to assist with couples and challenged co-parenting situations.
In her free time, she enjoys being outside in the garden, refurbishing or repurposing furniture, and spending quality time with her adult children and her youngest child (not quite an adult yet). She also enjoys researching and learning various things in the neurological field, expanding her knowledge of the chromosomal anomalies that so many of our children have. Mary enjoys being apart of the ASXL research foundation and assisting other families with the same chromosomal mutation across the globe.
